Hi All,
I have just returned from Peru. It's winter there and cool in Lima but very hot in the Amazon. Our group went down there to help build facilities on a site for homeless boys. While there we diverted one day to drop off some XO laptops at the center for the deaf. The laptops will be used as a learning aid and will be shared by about 30 children.

The children love the laptops. I had just enough time to bring one of the teachers up on using the laptop. She's a little overwhelmed because the instruction manual that I gave her is in English. I'm looking for a manual in Spanish if anybody can help. I'm also trying to figure out if the laptop has a locality setting for Spanish. I will be in contact with here as she learns the XO.

The XO program is fantastic. The deaf center operates on donations and computers are not in the budget. Now they have some. What a blessing.

Sincerely,

Bob Dellago

I had the opportunity to assist children with Xo laptop yesterday and it was really fun. The laptop is really colorful and user friendly. You do have to get accustomed to the keyboard as it is a little different than a regular laptop. It is easy to use and really built for kids. Kids were curious and liked to work with it. They enjoyed it a lot.

In this wonderful week, I haven't seen XO machine at all.

I saw people around OLPC being curious, admire, happy and shine on the light that we found ahead.

I saw a beautiful relationship from everybody here.

I saw a lot of dedicated people and I believe that we can make big change for the students, teachers, parents and communities. It is a big inspiration for me.

Glad to be here and thanks everybody.

Hi, I'm attend OLPC worshop at OLPC office in Boston. It's a great time for me to share experiences in learning with a group here. As XO become a significanr crossroad for a tool for learning, the becoming future is more excited. Let's learn together under the Micro World environment.

I'm overwhelmed and impressed by the students and teachers I've met this week.

And ... challenged to look at learning in a new way.

The challenge isn't only to help teachers use the XO machines with their students ... but also how to help teachers see their roles in the classroom in a different light.

A clear message this week has been to stay student-focused and student-centered.

That may be a bigger challenge for some teachers than seeing how to best use the XO.

Both go hand in hand.

I'd love to continue the discussion and to help in any way that I can.

Of course it's a good idea of child learning through computers. It's pretty good if children are offered laptop. To make children successful in life, they need proper instructions. If we give them a chance of making them aware of all the situation which may be raised in future providing them the relevant tools and materials.

Hi Katherine!

It was nearly 70 here in Washington DC today, but I feel your pain (or chill)!

I have asked several of our bright tech kids who are working with the OLPC project to get back to you on the networking question.

The only thing that I can think of, off the top of my head, is that you may be using an older 'build' or version of the operating system. The newest build (Release 691) has newer drivers and has better capabilities for networking.

I'll check in with the kids and see if they can get back to you tomorrow.

Best regards,

Michael Connet
