  1. Katherine Valleau Says:

For me, the bottom line throughout David’s presentation is community building. Communities of educators, administrators, students and families. When communities are established and made strong, learning becomes a living, evolving and fluid entity.

  2. Ruth Says:

The presentation was very informative. I am excited about working with our students in Birmingham on similar projects.

  3. Michael Says:

The more I hear about the successes in various places the more excited I am about the opportunities for our children in Birmingham.

I think it is very noble what olpc is doing to help make the world a better place for all kids.

  5. Chris Rodriguez Says:

    David,

In the Brazil example, who supported the Xo laptops (hardware maint., software upgrades, etc.) after the OLPC team left? Was iit the governments IT group?

    Thank you,

David is so passionate about this project, until one gets so involved as well. You just want to go on. Thanks David.

  7. Brenda Moxley Says:

It will be interesting to see how our experiences parallel the one in Brazil.

  8. Pat B. Davis Says:

I believe what you say. Assessments have determined scheduling in a building.

Empowering teachers to believe that learning is our mission and they determine effective curriculum for students.

Students must be given time to process, reflect, and correct in order to hard wire those neurons.

More learning takes place through failure than through success for all of us.

I know that in Birmigham we will need to have a commitment for goal -setting , action plans, and the establishment of learning communities for teachers with teachers and/or small student groups.

  9. Patricia Sierra Says:

  10. Julie Says:

Where do you start go develop teachers that embrace teaching that enhances individuals rather than teaching curriculum? Of course, there’s no right way to do that, but my concern is that teachers either wil not use the machine or will use it simply as an exchange for paper/pencil activities neither of which will accomplish the purpose for which the machines were developed.

  11. Connie Says:

It is a great experience… you have to really play with it in order to learn about it… for us..Colombians it is a new experience and we have much to learn… thanks

  12. Darryl Says:

The XO project is an awesome opportunity to get technology into the hands of every child! The ability for children learn share knowledge with this tool is invaluable!!

  13. Karen Says:

The idea of older kids helping younger kids seems to be very beneficial for students to learn in a cooperative manner. The growth that David has witnessed through this collaborative endeavor is fantastic.
