1st Question of the Day - Multimedia training

When most workshops begin, participants are asked to introduce themselves to each other.

Today, you did this through digital images.

How did this change the experience of being introduced visually?

  1. Jim Says:

Will know better at the end of the seminar.

  2. Patrick Says:

Using the digital camera to introduce the course participants gets people using the technology right away. Students are comfortable with technology so its important that teachers use the technology as well.

  3. Teresa Says:

I came to this workshop to see how Digital Media was being taught as we are currently doing some workshops on this.
I appreciate seeing all the resources related to this.
Being introduced digitally was a novel approach.

  4. Laura Says:

Right now I’m feeling a little out of my depth - should have brought along my teenaged son! Hopefully I’ll feel more confident by the end of the day.

I’m most interested in editing videos/photos.

  5. Lynn Quinn Says:

You’re hands on from the start and you get over any fear of technology quickly. You learn practical lessons and retain them.

  6. Saima Says:

Introductions through visual means was more exciting and fun and seemed less of a burden or just another task. I would like to learn video making/editing skills so i can incorporate it into my teaching and make for better and more stimulating learning for my students.

  7. Geoff Tomlinson Says:

Interesting, but did not actually allow people as a group to interact and work together. The tool and the medium are a barrier but at the same time reduce anxiety.
Why am I here? to learn about video production as an educational tool (as most students a visual learners) and to begin development of physical literacy and sport coaching videos.

  8. Adria Says:

It seemed a little more personal to be introduced by taking someone’s picture instead of a handshake.
I hope to make myself more attractive to employers and a better teacher to my students by taking this course.

  9. Moni Says:

It was fun, very engaging and a nice way to find out other cool things about the ppl I work with.

  10. Shawn Says:

A picture says a thousand words. Taking pictures allowed us to introduce ourselves in a creative and fun way.

  11. Dale Says:

It captures your attention and having a picture out there should be able to allow people to go back and reacquaint themselves with the students later.

  12. Vanessa Says:

I gave me the chance to get to know the other person in my group much better. It was more personal. I had the chance to know more than she actually would have told me about herself if she had told me only her name and where she was from. I got to know her interest. I like this activity.

  13. stephanie Says:

It was different, but I like taking pictures. It would be nice to try this activity with the students when school starts.

  14. Beth Says:

It is easier to introduce yourself visually because it eliminates the awkwardness and formality of a traditional introduction. You immediately break the ice by looking at the camera and figuring out how to use it. Also, a digital introduction lets you think about how you want to present yourself as a picture rather than having to use words to describe yourself–which can be a hard thing to do (especially for middle school students!)

  15. Domieka Says:

This instantly engages the participant in the training setting. I just happen to enter the training later than anticipated but feel that I short-changed myself. This is something that I have never experienced in a training workshop so I am a little upset! Maybe a can participate later!

  16. Becky Says:

I found it challenging to think of places/images that would capture things about me that I’d like to share. I think the activity was fun and would be really engaging for my students, though I’d probably allow more than five minutes! It’s a great way to encourage conversation, and you learn more than just the standard things about one another as you have to get a little creative.

  17. Nicole Says:

I think the lady that didnt know us probably thought we were crazy. We were taking lots of pictures. A picture speaks a thousan words right? It made it easy to explain myself without having to get in front of everyone and all nervous.

  18. lynn mcgee Says:

The use of the cameras gave us the opportunity to be more creative and the visual images will be remembered better than if we just spoke about ourselves.

  19. lynn mcgee Says:

A oicture is worth a thousand words! I really liked this exercise!!
